Set in the rolling hills of the Linzgau and right on the banks of Lake Constance, the former free imperial town has plenty to offer the young and the old, and is the perfect location for connoisseurs.
The ‘Bürgerbräu’ is located in the traditional heart of Überlingen. So it’s well away from the hustle and bustle, yet central enough to be only a brisk walk away from the lakeside and the jetty – or the Lake Constance Thermal Spa, the municipal gardens, the pedestrian precinct ... The town, which dates back to an Alemannic settlement first documented in 770 as ‘Iburinga’, is never boring. Its ideal location in terms of transport connections provided the foundation, which enabled Überlingen to grow into a prosperous commercial town.
Historical evidence from this period can still be seen today, and a walk through the town will give you some idea of how people might have lived here in times gone by. Today many traditions continue to be maintained, as the colourful Fasnacht celebrations bear witness. But Überlingen also has its modern side, with high levels of investment ensuring that quality of life will be maintained in the future. One of the measures planned for the 2020 State Horticultural Show (Landesgartenschau) is the creation of a lakeside park, which will provide Überlingen with an additional area of 6 hectares with a good deal more green space.
